We are recruiting a skilled Shift Engineer, Data Centre Engineer, or Critical Facilities Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team within a mission-critical data centre environment in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineers with experience in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Building Services, or Facilities Management systems to develop a long-term career within the rapidly growing data centre and critical infrastructure sector.

As part of a 24/7 operational engineering team, you will play a key role in maintaining uptime, reliability, resilience, and operational performance across critical infrastructure and essential building services systems.

Role Overview

As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and fault response of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure within a live data centre environment.

You will gain hands-on experience working with:

LV/MV electrical distribution systems
UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems
Standby generators and critical power infrastructure
HVAC and cooling systems including CRAC/CRAH units
Mechanical plant and associated building services systems
BMS / PMS / CMS monitoring platforms

This is a safety-critical engineering role requiring strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to respond effectively to alarms, faults, incidents, and operational issues within a 24/7 high-availability environment.

Key Responsibilities
Operations & Critical System Management
Operate and monitor critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure within a live data centre
Carry out HV/LV switching operations in accordance with Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
Monitor site performance using BMS, PMS, and CMS systems
Respond to alarms and faults, ensuring rapid diagnosis and resolution
Support operational resilience, uptime, and reliability across all critical systems
Escalate operational risks and incidents where appropriate
Maintenance & Fault Finding
Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities
Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and repairs across M&E systems
Support continuous improvement and engineering reliability initiatives
Assist with maintenance planning and engineering best practice
Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently
Compliance, Health & Safety
Supervise subcontractors and specialist service providers on site
Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ) standards
Maintain accurate technical documentation, maintenance records, and incident reports
Follow statutory regulations, site procedures, permits, and operational compliance standards
Promote a safety-first culture across all engineering activities
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent technical qualification
Experience within Building Services, Facilities Management, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Critical Environments
Strong working knowledge of:
Electrical systems (LV/MV)
Mechanical plant and HVAC systems
Critical infrastructure and building services systems
Proven fault finding, diagnostics, and problem-solving capability
Ability to work effectively within a shift-based 24/7 operational environment
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
Previous experience within data centres or mission-critical facilities
HV/LV Authorised Person (AP) status, or working towards certification
Knowledge of UPS systems, standby generators, and critical power systems
Experience using BMS, PMS, CMS, or CAFM systems
Relevant industry certifications such as NCC, REC, or equivalent
