Shift Technician Jobs in London – Critical Facilities & Building Services Engineering We are recruiting a skilled Shift Technician to join a high-performing engineering team within one of the UK’s most prestigious financial institutions.

Operating within a secure, mission-critical environment, you will support the maintenance and operation of a diverse estate including:
  • Corporate office facilities
  • Operational and production environments
  • Data centre infrastructure

The Engineering Team You will be part of a team of 50+ engineers delivering 24/7 engineering support across multiple critical sites and infrastructure environments.
These facilities require highly reliable engineering services to ensure:

  • Safe and compliant building operations
You will work alongside experienced Shift Leaders, Authorised Persons (APs), OEM contractors, and specialist engineering teams within a live operational environment.
Role Overview As a Shift Technician, you will be responsible for delivering both Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across critical electrical and mechanical systems.
Working closely with the Shift Leader, OEM contractors, and engineering teams, you will help maintain uptime, compliance, and operational reliability within a live 24/7 critical environment.
This role offers exposure to complex building services infrastructure and advanced mission-critical systems within a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Operations
  • Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) using IWMS / CAFM systems such as Planon
  • Respond to reactive maintenance tasks, minimising downtime and operational disruption
  • Conduct routine plant inspections, condition monitoring, and system checks
  • Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and repairs across M&E systems
  • Maintain and troubleshoot:
    • HVAC and BMS systems
    • Electrical systems (LV/HV)
    • Public health and plumbing systems
    • Fire detection and life safety systems
  • Support statutory inspections, audits, and compliance testing
  • Provide accurate shift handovers and maintain detailed technical documentation
  • Support uptime and operational resilience across critical infrastructure systems
Compliance & Health & Safety
  • Work closely with OEM contractors and specialist service providers
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, Safe Systems of Work, and site procedures
  • Participate in:
    • On-call rota and emergency response activities
    • Incident escalation and fault resolution
    • Business continuity and resilience planning
  • Support training initiatives, competency assessments, and continuous improvement programmes
  • Act as Authorised Person (AP) for LV or mechanical systems where applicable
  • Maintain operational discipline within a highly regulated environment
Skills & Experience Required Essential
  • City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering
  • Experience working within critical environments such as:
    • Data centres
    • Facilities management
    • Banking or financial services environments
    • Healthcare, industrial, or operational facilities
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • HVAC and BMS systems
    • Electrical systems (LV/HV)
    • Public health and life safety systems
    • Building services and critical infrastructure systems
  • Experience using IWMS / CAFM systems, ideally Planon
  • Good understanding of statutory compliance and Safe Systems of Work
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings and technical schematics
  • Strong fault finding and problem-solving capability
Desirable
  • Previous Authorised Person (AP) experience for LV or HV systems
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification, or willingness to obtain
  • Experience working within high-security or highly regulated environments
  • Knowledge of business continuity and critical facilities operations
  • Experience within mission-critical or 24/7 operational environments
