Data Centre Technician Jobs in London – Critical Infrastructure & M&E Engineering We are seeking a skilled Data Centre Technician to join a high-performing engineering team within a mission-critical data centre environment in Docklands, London.
This is a hands-on Electrical & Mechanical (M&E) role, ideally suited to candidates with experience in data centres, critical environments, facilities management, or building services engineering.
You will play a key role in maintaining uptime, resilience, and operational performance across critical infrastructure systems including UPS, generators, HVAC, and BMS-controlled environments.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Incident Response
- Respond to critical alarms, faults, and system alerts within a live data centre environment
- Monitor environmental conditions including temperature and humidity to maintain optimal system performance
- Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and troubleshooting across electrical and mechanical systems
- Perform switching operations, start-up, and shutdown procedures on critical plant including UPS systems, generators, and HVAC infrastructure
- Follow approved change control processes including SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs
- Support incident management, emergency response activities, and client communication
- Ensure operational uptime and resilience across all critical infrastructure systems
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in line with SLA requirements
- Maintain and optimise critical infrastructure systems to maximise reliability and operational efficiency
- Monitor and respond to alarms via BMS (Building Management Systems) and EMS platforms
- Conduct technical inspections, audits, and compliance checks
- Support continuous improvement and energy efficiency initiatives across site operations
- Assist with plant performance analysis and maintenance planning
- Operate within a strict Permit to Work (PTW) system
- Review RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements) prior to works commencing
- Accurately record maintenance activities within CMMS / CAFM systems
- Produce technical reports relating to asset performance and critical plant operation
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations, statutory requirements, and safe systems of work
- Follow site operational procedures and engineering compliance standards
- Work closely with Technical Managers, Shift Teams, and engineering colleagues
- Support and mentor junior engineers and apprentices where required
- Coordinate effectively with vendors, subcontractors, and key stakeholders
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and teamwork
- Support engineering best practice across all site operations
- Electrical apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent engineering qualification
- Experience within data centres, mission-critical environments, facilities management, or building services
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Electrical systems (LV/HV)
- UPS systems and standby generators
- HVAC and cooling infrastructure (CRAC/CRAH experience preferred)
- Mechanical and building services systems
- Experience working with BMS / EMS monitoring systems
- Proven fault finding and maintenance experience across critical infrastructure
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety procedures and compliance standards
- Ability to work independently and perform effectively under pressure within a live operational environment
- Previous experience within mission-critical or high-availability environments
- Understanding of data centre operations and uptime requirements
- Familiarity with regulated or cGxP-controlled environments
- Experience using CMMS / CAFM systems and maintenance reporting tools
- HV/LV switching experience or Authorised Person (AP) training
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and reliability improvement initiatives
- Work within a state-of-the-art data centre supporting critical infrastructure operations
