Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a growing team within a state-of-the-art data centre.

Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across critical electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems
- Monitor, operate, and fault-find BMS, PMS, and CMS platforms to maintain continuous system availability
- Respond promptly to alarms and emergency callouts, diagnosing and rectifying faults efficiently
- Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with L8 and water hygiene regulations
- Supervise subcontractors, ensuring adherence to approved RAMS, site procedures, and contractual obligations
- Manage and enforce the Permit to Work (PTW) system
- Ensure all activities comply with statutory, safety, and contractual requirements
- Oversee M&E contractors to ensure work aligns with MOP, SOP, and EOP procedures
- Support commissioning activities, witnessing and handing over new infrastructure and upgrades
- Assist in coordinating P1, P2, and P3 incidents alongside Shift Managers and the Data Centre Manager
- Maintain accurate site logbooks and statutory compliance records
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments and promote best practice in Health & Safety
- Prepare, review, and approve Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS)
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation and CAFM task sheets
- Act as a key point of contact for client representatives and attend operational meetings as required
- Work closely with the Data Centre Manager and shift teams to ensure seamless service delivery
- Deliver structured and comprehensive shift handovers, including detailed logs, reports, and plant status updates
- Single and three-phase systems
- UPS systems and generators
- Control panels and switchgear
- Air Handling Units (AHUs)
- Fan Coil Units (FCUs)
- Split systems and chillers
- Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Open and closed chilled water systems
- Support and manage unplanned faults and emergency situations within a live critical environment
- Proven experience within a critical environment (data centres, financial institutions, or similar)
- Hands-on expertise with UPS systems, generators, HVAC plant, and BMS platforms
- Experience managing real-time incidents and fault conditions in live environments
- Ability to coordinate complex maintenance and operational activities
- City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Services or Maintenance
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- HV Authorised Person status
- Confined Space & Manual Handling certification
- PASMA and IPAF qualifications
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Calm, decisive, and professional under pressure
- Competent in preparing RAMS and conducting dynamic risk assessments
- IT literate, including CAFM systems
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Flexible with shift patterns and overtime requirements
- Comfortable working at height and using vertical access equipment
- Security clearance (BPSS or SC) may be required
- High standards of integrity and professionalism
- Competitive salary: £48,000 – £52,000 (depending on experience)
