Electrical Engineer – Estates Maintenance

Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Operational Support
Provide electrical engineering support across multiple buildings, resolving faults and delivering technical guidance
Carry out PPM, reactive maintenance, and self-delivered works to a high professional standard
Respond to emergency situations and participate in the engineering call-out rota
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all work is delivered in accordance with Safe Systems of Work and current Health & Safety legislation
Supervise contractors, ensuring inductions, permits, and compliance requirements are met
Act as a Safety Champion, proactively identifying and mitigating Health & Safety risks
Systems & Maintenance Management
Coordinate planned system shutdowns safely and efficiently
Maintain plant and equipment to maximise reliability and cost-effectiveness
Ensure accurate and up-to-date records are maintained to meet legal, statutory, and client requirements
Monitor stock levels of consumables and critical electrical spares
Resource & Job Management
Plan and prioritise workloads across multiple buildings, balancing PPM and reactive demands
Raise material requests, obtain quotations, and manage associated documentation
Manage work orders via CAFM systems, ensuring timely and accurate completion
Personal & Technical Development
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK electrical standards, including the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
Broaden technical capability across wider M&E systems
Review O&M manuals and recommend improvements to PPM schedules
Participate in ongoing training and progression toward Low Voltage Authorised Person (LV AP) duties
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with supervisors, managers, and colleagues to deliver a high-quality maintenance service
Liaise with subcontractors regarding specifications, quotations, and materials
Promote teamwork, knowledge sharing, and proactive problem-solving
Person Specification
Qualifications
City & Guilds Parts 1 & 2 or NVQ Level 2–3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
Knowledge of SFG20 Maintenance Specification
Relevant building maintenance and Health & Safety training (e.g., First Aid, MEWP, PASMA, Water Treatment, LMS, BMS)
Membership of a professional engineering body (desirable)
Knowledge & Experience
Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems within building maintenance environments
Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams across complex facilities
Familiarity with CAFM systems, asset management tools, and mobile/PDA technology
Skills & Attributes
Excellent fault-finding, problem-solving, and decision-making capability
Strong IT skills, including MS Office and CAFM platforms
Clear and confident communicator with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
Proactive, adaptable, and customer-focused approach
Strong awareness of commercial and operational priorities within Facilities Management environments
