The Role
As Lead Shift Engineer, you will take responsibility for both planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, clear communication, and the ability to cultivate a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) across all mechanical and electrical plant in line with site schedules and asset registers
Respond promptly to reactive maintenance, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
Diagnose and rectify plant faults to maintain operational performance
Complete statutory maintenance in accordance with SFG20 requirements
Manage stock levels of critical spares and prepare parts lists and timelines for remedial works
Issue and control Permits to Work for internal teams and subcontractors
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all maintenance and breakdown activities
Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and client representatives
Present a professional and customer-focused approach at all times
Maintain plant rooms in a safe, clean, and compliant condition
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, SLAs, KPIs, and SHEQ standards
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Electrical or Mechanical Apprenticeship
Proven experience within Facilities Management with a strong operational track record
Desirable
HNC / HND / Foundation Degree
BOAS / BG01
City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
IET 17th Edition
City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 / 2395 (Testing & Inspection) or relevant HVAC qualification
Technical & Professional Skills
Strong knowledge of building services and statutory compliance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAFM systems
Calm, methodical approach under pressure
Experience leading, mentoring, or supporting engineering teams
