Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled, proactive, and technically capable Data Centre Technician to join our Operations team based in Docklands, London. This is a hands-on role operating within a high-availability, mission-critical data centre environment, offering exposure to advanced infrastructure, complex building systems, and critical plant equipment.

As a key member of the Operations team, you will play a vital role in maintaining uptime, ensuring operational resilience, and delivering safe, reliable, and efficient performance across multiple data centre facilities. This position is ideal for a technically qualified professional who thrives in high-responsibility environments, enjoys structured problem-solving, and takes pride in maintaining uninterrupted service within critical operations.

Key Responsibilities
Operations & Incident Response

Act as a first responder to critical alarms and system alerts, liaising with the Client Service Desk and providing timely, accurate updates.

Monitor and manage environmental control systems to maintain temperature, humidity, and operational tolerances within defined parameters.

Execute change control procedures, documenting all hardware, software, and system updates in accordance with operational governance.

Support site and client management during emergency situations, incident responses, and planned drills.

Conduct inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis across electrical, mechanical, and plant systems.

Safely manage the start-up, shutdown, and switching operations of critical infrastructure equipment including UPS, generators, HVAC, and associated plant.

Maintenance & Optimisation

Deliver both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in line with agreed SLAs and operational standards.

Identify and implement improvements relating to energy efficiency, system performance optimisation, and operational risk reduction.

Carry out technical audits to verify asset performance, compliance, and resilience standards.

Support BMS calibration and EMS monitoring activities to ensure system accuracy and data integrity.

Documentation & Compliance

Administer and control the Permit to Work (PTW) system, ensuring safe execution of all maintenance and contractor activities.

Review RAMS and access permits to proactively mitigate operational risk.

Develop, maintain, and adhere to site-specific SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), MOPs (Method of Procedure), and EOPs (Emergency Operating Procedures).

Accurately record all maintenance and operational activities within CMMS and ticketing platforms.

Produce routine technical reports covering UPS performance, battery condition monitoring, and asset health status.

Teamwork & Development

Collaborate closely with the Technical Manager, engineering colleagues, and shift teams to ensure continuous service delivery.

Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to junior technicians and apprentices.

Coordinate effectively with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely issue resolution and high-quality service outcomes.

Skills, Experience & Competencies

Completed electrical apprenticeship or equivalent recognised technical qualification.

Demonstrable experience within building services, ideally in data centres or other mission-critical environments.

Strong technical understanding of electrical and mechanical building systems, fault-finding methodologies, and service delivery frameworks.

Experience working with BMS, EMS, and critical infrastructure systems.

Knowledge of cGxP-controlled environments is advantageous.

Confident communicator, capable of engaging professionally with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.

Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions under pressure.

Strong commitment to health & safety, statutory compliance, environmental standards, and operational excellence.

Why Join Us?

You will be part of a high-performing and respected operations team working at the core of mission-critical infrastructure in Docklands, London. This role offers exposure to advanced systems, structured professional development, and clear pathways for long-term career progression within a growing data centre operation.
