Purpose of the Job The Data Centre HVAP Technician is responsible for supervising and overseeing both planned and reactive maintenance activities in collaboration with the Engineering Supervisor and Shift Leader. The role requires close liaison with engineering management and client representatives to ensure full compliance with site policies, procedures, and health & safety regulations.
Operating as an Authorised Person (HV), you will ensure all safety documentation is completed to a consistently high standard and that all works align with company policies and Safe Systems of Work.

Role Summary
- Deliver routine and reactive maintenance across building plant, equipment, and systems, ensuring service levels consistently meet or exceed agreed SLAs.
- Respond promptly to Building Management System (BMS) alarms and undertake emergency repairs as required.
- Implement, manage, and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) controls to ensure safe execution of all activities.
- Develop, review, and follow switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs in line with company policies and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
- Maintain evaporative cooling systems and domestic water systems in compliance with L8 (Legionella) requirements.
- Ensure appropriate availability of spare parts to support maintenance and fault response activities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using REALM task sheets.
- Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments for in-house works, ensuring robust risk control and safe working practices.
- Supervise engineering subcontractors, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and site operating procedures.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and client representatives.
- Promote a safe and healthy working environment, ensuring full compliance with company and client policies and procedures.
- Present a professional image to clients and visitors, delivering high standards of customer service at all times.
- Commit to ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance technical competence.
- Ensure work packs contain all required documentation and review subcontractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Provide technical and operational support during unplanned incidents or system faults.
- Fulfil all HV Authorised Person (HVAP) responsibilities associated with the role.
- HV Authorisation (essential).
- Current Wiring Regulations certification.
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
- Manual Handling training (advantageous).
- PASMA and IPAF certifications (preferred).
- Proven experience managing real-time incidents and faults within a business-critical or data centre environment.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role within a comparable organisation.
- Strong understanding of health & safety obligations relating to maintenance and live operational environments.
- Knowledge of multiple interlinked systems, including Fire, PMS, and BMS platforms.
- Excellent verbal communication skills; numerate and literate.
- Strong attention to detail and a diligent approach to safe working practices.
- Self-motivated with a high level of personal integrity and accountability.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively in high-pressure environments.
- Professional, courteous, and presentable, with confidence interacting with clients at all levels.
- Flexible approach to working hours to support operational requirements.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for site performance and safety.
