YouGov: Four in 10 Britons think AI will have a major impact on white collar jobs
- A quarter (24 per cent) think robots will have a major impact on blue collar jobs
- Only 8 per cent think AI will have little to no impact on white collar jobs
- A quarter (25 per cent) think robots will have little or no impact on blue collar jobs
Much has been made of the impact that AI is going to have on professional jobs, with some advising people to go into more physical jobs in order to avoid being affected. But the recent performance by humanoid robots in China performing a skilled kung fu routine calls into question whether we might soon find blue collar jobs similarly at risk.
New YouGov polling explores how much of an impact Britons think that each technology will have on their respective sectors in the next decade.
When it comes to the impact of AI on white collar/professional jobs, Britons are primarily split between the 39 per cent who expect a major impact and the 39 per cent who think it will have a moderate impact; only 8% think it will have little to no impact.
By contrast, fewer people think robots will have a major impact on blue collar/manual jobs (24%), while the number expecting a moderate change remains the same (39%) – instead, 25% now expect little to no impact from the technology.
