Purpose of the Role
The Calibration Technician plays a key role in delivering high-quality calibration and instrumentation services within a regulated, mission-critical environment.
During the initial project phase, you will support the Principal Contractor in developing site documentation, procedures, and calibration processes aligned with client and regulatory requirements.
Once the site becomes fully operational, the role will transition into steady-state service delivery, focusing on:
Day-to-day calibration and instrumentation support
Maintenance and control of critical test equipment
Coordination of third-party calibration providers
Ensuring system accuracy, availability, and regulatory compliance
Key Responsibilities
Calibration & Instrumentation Services
Deliver end-to-end calibration activities across control and instrumentation systems
Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and client-requested calibration activities
Diagnose and rectify faults on field instrumentation and process systems
Ensure calibration activities are completed in line with quality, compliance, and operational standards
Procedures, Planning & Maintenance
Develop, implement, and maintain calibration procedures and maintenance strategies
Define and manage equipment tolerances across plant and process systems
Maintain calibration test equipment and workspace standards
Maximise plant and equipment availability through effective preventative maintenance programmes
Technical & Project Support
Provide technical support during projects, commissioning activities, and system handovers
Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and A3 problem-solving investigations
Initiate and manage Permits to Work (PTW) in line with site procedures
Produce clear, accurate, and actionable technical reports and documentation
Asset, Spares & Supplier Management
Identify and manage spare parts requirements and stock levels
Raise purchase requests and support procurement activities
Coordinate the dispatch and return of equipment with third-party calibration providers
Ensure all work orders are completed within CMMS systems and contractual timescales
Collaboration & Operational Support
Work closely with the Systems Manager and wider site leadership team
Provide cross-functional technical support across operational teams and projects
Support continuous improvement initiatives and site operational objectives
Accountability
Reporting to: Systems Manager
Key Interfaces: Site Management Team
Direct Reports: None
Budget Responsibility: None, although financial awareness is required
Skills & Experience
Essential
Formal apprenticeship in Calibration & Instrumentation
HNC / HND (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
Minimum of 3 years’ calibration experience within regulated environments such as:
Pharmaceutical
Food manufacturing
Laboratory environments
Critical or high-compliance industries
Proven experience writing and maintaining calibration procedures
Strong understanding of instrumentation and control systems
Experience using CMMS systems
Desirable
cGxP training within regulated environments
Experience working within mission-critical or highly regulated industries
Familiarity with A3 and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies
Skills & Attributes
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Highly organised with a methodical approach to fault-finding and documentation
Confident IT user with experience using CMMS platforms
Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
