The Opportunity We are seeking a skilled Day Electrical Engineer to join the Facilities Management Team at a prestigious university campus.

This is an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career within a dynamic and technically diverse environment, working across a wide range of electrical systems and building services infrastructure. You will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of campus facilities.

Role Overview As a Day Electrical Engineer, you will deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, and minor installation works across campus buildings and plant. Working closely with maintenance staff and contractors, you will help maintain compliance, system performance, and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Engineering Operations
  • Carry out electrical maintenance and repairs across buildings, plant, and equipment
  • Deliver statutory, mandatory, PPM, and reactive maintenance tasks
  • Perform fault-finding and diagnostics to maximise system uptime and reliability
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and manufacturer guidelines
  • Work safely in potentially hazardous environments using appropriate PPE and safe systems of work
  • Prepare plant and systems for statutory inspections and insurance compliance
Asset Management & Project Support
  • Maintain accurate asset registers and maintenance records
  • Support minor installation works, including planning, materials identification, and preparation
  • Conduct site surveys and pre-installation inspections
  • Identify and report defects, recommending remedial actions
Team & Contractor Coordination
  • Supervise and coordinate specialist contractors and service providers
  • Liaise with the Asset Manager and Facilities Team regarding maintenance issues
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues
  • Assist with the training and development of apprentices and new staff
Systems & Administration
  • Complete work orders, logbooks, and reports accurately and on time
  • Use CAFM systems, PDAs, BMS platforms, and Permit to Work systems (training provided)
  • Ensure all documentation is compliant and audit-ready
Additional Duties
  • Support maintenance tasks outside core electrical disciplines when required
  • Safely operate tools, access equipment, and maintenance machinery
  • Assist during emergency situations and participate in out-of-hours work where necessary
Essential Requirements
  • Completed Electrical Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (18th Edition desirable or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience maintaining emergency lighting systems
  • Basic understanding of Health & Safety regulations within building services or construction environments
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems within building maintenance environments
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail with strong documentation and record-keeping ability
  • Competent IT skills, including mobile devices and CAFM systems
  • Proactive, flexible, and team-oriented approach
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
