Role Overview
As an Electrical Engineer – Estates Maintenance, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of building systems across multiple sites. You will be responsible for maintaining electrical infrastructure, supporting operational performance, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Maintenance Delivery
Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical systems
Diagnose faults and provide effective technical solutions in a timely manner
Deliver minor works and maintenance tasks to a high professional standard
Provide emergency response support and participate in an on-call rota
Compliance, Health & Safety
Ensure all works are completed in line with Health & Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work
Supervise contractors, ensuring compliance with permits, RAMS, and site procedures
Act as a Safety Champion, proactively identifying and mitigating risks
Maintain full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
Systems & Asset Management
Support the safe coordination of planned shutdowns and maintenance activities
Maintain plant and equipment to maximise reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance
Ensure accurate maintenance records are updated in CAFM systems
Monitor and manage stock levels of electrical consumables and critical spares
Work Planning & Resource Management
Plan and prioritise workloads across multiple buildings
Raise purchase requests, obtain quotations, and manage documentation
Manage and close out work orders via CAFM systems in a timely manner
Technical Development & Continuous Improvement
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
Develop broader understanding of M&E systems and building services
Review O&M manuals and recommend improvements to maintenance strategies (SFG20)
Work towards Low Voltage Authorised Person (LVAP) status
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with internal teams, supervisors, and management
Liaise with contractors and suppliers on technical specifications and works
Promote teamwork, knowledge sharing, and a proactive maintenance culture
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
City & Guilds Parts 1 & 2 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
Knowledge of SFG20 Maintenance Standards
Experience & Knowledge
Proven experience in building services / facilities maintenance environments
Strong understanding of electrical systems, fault finding, and maintenance practices
Experience working across multi-site or complex estates
Familiarity with CAFM systems, asset management tools, and mobile technology
Skills & Attributes
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Good IT skills (MS Office, CAFM systems)
Proactive, adaptable, and customer-focused approach
Strong awareness of commercial and operational priorities within Facilities Management
Desirable
Additional Health & Safety certifications (e.g., First Aid, MEWP, PASMA)
Experience with BMS (Building Management Systems)
Membership of a professional engineering body
