We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) to join a state-of-the-art data centre, supporting mission-critical infrastructure in a high-performance, zero-tolerance environment.
This is a highly responsible role where you will act as a key guardian of electrical safety, compliance, and operational continuity. Working alongside the Engineering Shift Leader and Building Engineering Supervisor, you will take ownership of high-voltage systems, planned maintenance, and incident response.
This continental shift position offers autonomy, technical diversity, and exposure to advanced critical electrical infrastructure, where precision and safety are paramount.

Role Overview As a Data Centre HVAP Technician, you will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and control of high-voltage electrical systems. You will ensure maximum uptime, lead switching operations, and maintain strict compliance with industry regulations and safe systems of work.
Key Responsibilities Critical Engineering & Operations
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical and building systems
- Act as the site High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP), carrying out switching, isolations, and high-risk operations
- Prepare and execute switching schedules, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and EOPs (Emergency Operating Procedures)
- Respond to BMS alarms and critical incidents, diagnosing faults and restoring services efficiently
- Maintain uptime and resilience of mission-critical infrastructure
- Manage and administer the Permit to Work (PTW) system
- Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work (SSOW)
- Maintain water systems in line with L8 (Legionella) regulations
- Supervise contractors and specialist vendors, ensuring safe and compliant delivery of works
- Support incident management during faults, outages, and emergency scenarios
- Maintain availability of critical spares and materials
- Record all maintenance activities using CAFM systems (e.g., REALM)
- Produce accurate technical reports and documentation
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and client stakeholders
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
- Take ownership of maintaining high operational and safety standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering operations
- Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence
- Current High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) status
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (or current equivalent)
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Emergency First Aid at Work certification
- Proven experience in data centres, critical environments, or high-availability facilities
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, switching procedures, and fault management
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation within engineering environments
- Ability to work under pressure in mission-critical environments
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Self-motivated, reliable, and accountable
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Physically capable of accessing plant areas and using access equipment
- PASMA / IPAF certifications
- Manual Handling training
- Experience with BMS, PMS, and Fire Systems
- Experience using CAFM systems (e.g., REALM)
- Strong understanding of critical infrastructure operations
- Work within a cutting-edge data centre environment
