Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled, proactive, and technically capable Data Centre Technician to join our Operations team in Docklands, London. This is a hands-on role within a high-availability, mission-critical data centre environment, offering exposure to advanced infrastructure, complex building systems, and critical plant equipment.
As a key member of the Operations team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining uptime, ensuring operational resilience, and supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of multiple data centre facilities. This position is ideal for a technically qualified professional who thrives in high-responsibility environments, enjoys structured problem solving, and takes pride in maintaining uninterrupted critical services.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Incident Response
Respond promptly to critical alarms and system alerts, liaising with the Client Service Desk and providing timely updates.
Monitor and manage environmental control systems to maintain temperature, humidity, and operational tolerances within defined parameters.
Execute change control procedures, ensuring all system and infrastructure updates are documented accurately.
Support site and client management during emergency situations, incident responses, and operational drills.
Conduct inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis across electrical, mechanical, and plant systems.
Safely perform start-up, shutdown, and switching operations on critical infrastructure, including UPS, generators, HVAC, and associated plant equipment.
Maintenance & Optimisation
Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in line with SLAs and operational standards.
Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, system performance, and operational resilience.
Conduct technical audits to verify asset performance, compliance, and reliability standards.
Support BMS calibration and EMS monitoring to ensure system accuracy and data integrity.
Documentation & Compliance
Administer the Permit to Work (PTW) system to ensure all maintenance and contractor activities are carried out safely.
Review RAMS and access permits to mitigate operational risk.
Maintain and follow site-specific SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs.
Accurately record operational and maintenance activities within CMMS and ticketing platforms.
Produce routine technical reports covering UPS performance, battery condition monitoring, and overall asset health.
Teamwork & Development
Collaborate closely with the Technical Manager, engineering teams, and shift colleagues to ensure continuous service delivery.
Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior technicians and apprentices.
Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely issue resolution and high-quality service outcomes.
Skills, Experience & Competencies
Completed electrical apprenticeship or equivalent recognised technical qualification.
Experience in building services, preferably in data centres or other mission-critical environments.
Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical building systems, fault-finding techniques, and service delivery frameworks.
Experience working with BMS, EMS, and critical infrastructure systems.
Knowledge of cGxP-controlled environments is advantageous.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with clients, contractors, and technical teams.
Proactive, solutions-focused, and able to work independently while making sound technical decisions under pressure.
Commitment to health & safety, regulatory compliance, environmental standards, and operational excellence.
Why Join Us?
Work within a high-performing operations team supporting mission-critical infrastructure in Docklands, London.
Gain exposure to advanced systems and complex critical infrastructure.
Access structured professional development and clear long-term career progression pathways.
Thrive in a technically challenging, high-impact environment where reliability and precision truly matter.
