Building Services Engineer
Location: Dartford, Kent, with travel throughout Southern England (primarily London and the Home Counties)
Hours: 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Reporting to: Building Services Contract Manager
Purpose of the Role
The Building Services Engineer will deliver high-quality Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive repair services across client sites, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the satisfaction of the client.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
Complete all planned and reactive maintenance tasks in line with agreed schedules and service levels
Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs to building services systems
Reporting & Documentation
Produce clear, accurate written reports, timesheets, and service documentation in a timely manner
Identify defects and provide parts lists and estimated repair timescales to the Building Services Contract Manager
Emergency Response
Attend reactive tasks and emergency callouts as directed by the helpdesk team
Participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota as required
Client & Professional Standards
Maintain a professional image and approach at all times
Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, colleagues, and subcontractors
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure a safe and healthy working environment in accordance with Health & Safety, Environmental Health, and COSHH regulations
Comply with current legislation, industry standards, and company policies
Accountabilities
Adhere to company policies relating to Health & Safety, Environmental Management, and COSHH
Maintain compliance with relevant government legislation and company procedures
Communicate regularly with supervisory and management staff, as well as specialist subcontractors, to maintain service standards
Report directly to the Building Services Contract Manager
No direct line management or budgetary responsibility
Skills & Requirements
Technical & Professional Skills
Strong background in mechanical building services maintenance
Proven experience delivering PPM and reactive maintenance
Proficient in fault finding and repair of control circuits
Ability to work in accordance with statutory maintenance obligations
Education & Qualifications
Good basic education, with strong written and spoken English and basic mathematical skills
Recognised mechanical services qualification
Health & Safety
Sound understanding of Health & Safety regulations, environmental impacts, and risk assessments
Experience working in compliance-led environments, including lone working procedures
Communication & Teamwork
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
Flexible, adaptable, and collaborative approach to teamwork

Willingness to work overtime, including a minimum of two weekends per month
Participation in an on-call rota
Full, clean UK driving licence (essential)
Desirable Experience & Skills
Experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS)
RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement) training
Ability and willingness to work outside core discipline when required
IT literate, with experience using CAFM systems, Microsoft Office, and Project
Membership of a relevant professional body
