Company Profile Our client is a leading global provider of integrated facilities management and corporate real estate services, supporting some of the world’s most critical and complex environments. They are currently seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanical Data Centre Technician to join their high-performing team based in London Docklands.
Purpose of the Role As an HVAC Mechanical Technician, you will support the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance within a mission-critical data centre environment. Working closely with the Engineering Supervisor and day team, you will ensure all activities are completed in full compliance with health & safety legislation, site policies, and operational procedures.
You will play a key role in maintaining HVAC and mechanical plant to the highest standards, directly contributing to the facility’s reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Purpose of the Role As an HVAC Mechanical Technician, you will support the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance within a mission-critical data centre environment. Working closely with the Engineering Supervisor and day team, you will ensure all activities are completed in full compliance with health & safety legislation, site policies, and operational procedures.
You will play a key role in maintaining HVAC and mechanical plant to the highest standards, directly contributing to the facility’s reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance on building plant, systems, and equipment in line with SLAs and client expectations.
- Respond promptly to BMS alarms and undertake emergency repairs as required.
- Operate within the Permit to Work system, ensuring all controls and authorisations are correctly implemented.
- Prepare, follow, and review switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs.
- Ensure the availability of critical spares to maintain uptime across essential systems.
- Prepare Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all in-house activities.
- Supervise subcontractors, ensuring compliance with contractual, safety, and site requirements.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with site teams and client representatives, delivering high standards of customer service.
- Ensure all works comply with site policies, statutory obligations, and health & safety standards.
- Support incident response and fault resolution during unplanned events.
- Contribute to team development through training, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure accuracy and quality of work packs and documentation, including reviewing subcontractor RAMS.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct, representing the company positively to clients and visitors.
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an HVAC or mechanical discipline.
- Current Wiring Regulations certification.
- Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
- Proven experience in a similar technical role within a critical environment (data centres preferred).
- Strong understanding of health & safety requirements relating to engineering maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Critical mechanical plant: chilled water systems, pumps, motors, ACUs, adiabatic coolers
- HVAC systems: CRAC units, split systems, air- and water-cooled chillers, dry air coolers
- Real-time incident and fault management experience in business-critical environments.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- High levels of personal integrity, accountability, and a proactive working attitude.
- Ability to safely ascend and descend vertical access equipment.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional shift or on-call support.
- HV experience and Manual Handling certification.
- PASMA and IPAF certifications.
- Knowledge of integrated systems, including Fire, PMS, and BMS.
