Job Title: M&E Shift Technician - Critical Environments
Location: Data Center Facility
Purpose: Ensure adherence to Customer Specific Service Level Agreements and contribute to the efficient operation of the Managed Services function. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and execute departmental strategies, objectives, and improvement processes. This role involves round-the-clock coverage on a shift basis, 365 days a year, and may require providing coverage for team members when needed. The Shift Technician plays a key role in maintaining positive customer relationships and upholding the company's image.
Responsibilities:
Perform routine Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on mechanical and electrical plant according to site schedules and asset lists. Execute all work to high standards and industry best practices. Obtain and maintain Authorised Person status for HV systems as required by contract.
Complete reactive tasks promptly and proactively identify areas for improvement. Prioritize safety, promptly reporting incidents or hazards to line management.
Swiftly remedy plant faults and defects to ensure continuous operation.
Ensure availability of necessary spares for maintenance and reactive works, providing parts lists and estimated timelines. Complete all relevant paperwork for PPM, reactive, and breakdown works and submit to Shift Manager and contract administrator without delay.
Prepare and utilize Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks to ensure safe working practices. Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including wearing appropriate uniform and PPE. Maintain up-to-date shift logs and site-associated Log Books.
Ensure critical areas under responsibility are secure and well-maintained. Supervise subcontractors' work on-site, ensuring compliance with permits and Risk Assessments. Provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and remain flexible in working patterns.
Stay on-site until a full complement of shift personnel is present. Undertake lone working as required. Demonstrate understanding of site systems, processes, and procedures to stand in for the shift manager when needed. Notify Shift Manager/Engineering Manager of any absences or lateness according to company procedures. Request annual leave within specified timeframes and arrange appropriate cover.
Regularly check and respond to emails, job requests, and online training. Ensure awareness and compliance with contractual KPIs/SLAs.
Complete weekly timesheets by 9 am every Friday and submit overtime requests promptly. Participate in drill/scenario training and technical assessments. Perform other duties within your skill set as delegated by Line Manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Basic education with proficiency in written and spoken English and Mathematics. Training: City & Guilds certification in Mechanical/Electrical/Refrigeration Building Services maintenance. Strong skills in Building Management Systems preferred. HV Authorised or equivalent qualification required. BS7671 2018 18th Edition Regs.
Experience in maintaining controlled humidity & temperature environments, preferably in data center settings. Strong knowledge of Generators, electrical systems, UPS, Chiller Heating & Ventilation/Air Conditioning, and building management systems. Aptitudes: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, physical fitness. Character:
Dedicated to delivering excellent customer service, ability to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions, and work effectively in a team.
