Our client are a well established M&E services firm, with a requirement for a multi-skilled and critically experienced shift engineer to be based at one of their high profile data centre contracts based in Essex. Working on a 24/7 rotating shift pattern, covering 12 hour day and night shifts, the role will involve delivering planned and reactive maintenance to electrical, mechanical and general HVAC systems. Guideline salary for this position is circa £50-54,000, with an opportunity for some Overtime/Shift cover to further boost earning potential.
Candidates should be fully qualified in electrical engineering, ideally through a full apprenticeship, and with at least five years of experience of maintenance within the data centre/financial services sector. Along with core certifications, additional training such as HV/LV authorisation, IOSH, F-Gas, etc will all be beneficial and day-to-day duties will include:
· Monitor and control mechanical and electrical plant.
· Carry out planned preventative and corrective maintenance.
· Maintain records of plant operation and maintenance.
· Supervise specialist external subcontract engineers. Including H&S briefing.
· Participate in a shift rota.
· Be able to work unsupervised and deputise for the Engineering Supervisor when needed.
· Operation of a building management system (BMS)
· Operation and control of a Fire detection and fire extinguishing systems
· Understand and work to company health and safety procedures.
· Operation of standby diesel generator system.
· Practical understanding of L.V. switching arrangements, electrical safety and isolation.
· Practical understanding and trained ability (with current certificate) to switch High Voltage.
· Operation and first line fault finding of HVAC system and controls including Air Cooled Chillers, Complex chilled water systems and water treatment legislation.
· Operation of Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) system, PDUs and critical complex electrical distribution systems. · Supervise specialist subcontract service engineers with respect to site access, H&S and quality of work.
· Represent organisation in relation to escorting visitors throughout the premises.
· Keep daily records of work carried out, utilising the in-house CPPM system.
· Keep health and safety records up to date and contribute to tasks such as reviews of risk assessments etc.
This is a rare opportunity for an individual to work local to home at a site in the Essex area, and would perhaps suit those shift engineers and shift leaders working within existing data centre and financial services sites who are looking for a role more local to home. With a very steady team (this role has become available due to a retirement), our customer seek a technically minded data centre/critical services engineer to join their existing team and maintain 100% uptime across this facility.
