We are currently recruiting for a Mechanically biased Assistant Technical Services Manager to work at a large hospital in Portsmouth. You will work alongside the Mechanical Technical Services Manager and support them in their duties in managing all electrical services on the site. While the TSM will manage the engineering team, the Assistant TSM will oversee on site subcontractors and manage the mechanical compliance on the contract. This compliance element will include working with external bodies/audits and conducting internal audits to make sure the engineering team's work is to a high standard and working with the TSM to introduce any improvements needed. You will also become one of the AP's on site for Medical Gas and Legionella.

This is a great opportunity for someone from a mechanical background to step into a role off the tools, full training is provided to becoming an Authorised Person (12-18 months). This is an opportunity to become a mechanical technical expert with a clear career path to TSM in the future, it would suit someone who is detailed and knowledgeable about compliance (HTMs)

Duties of the role include:


  • Working within the hospital technical management team, you will support the technical manager.
  • Management of boiler and pressure systems, ventilation and piped medical gas.
  • Providing technical support to hospital FM teams, as well as NHS service users
  • Supervising and overseeing contractor activities within the hospital
  • Proactively assisting in the ongoing development of FM services
  • Demonstrating knowledge and leadership in a multitude of engineering principles
  • Completing internal Audits
  • Updating Technical Compliance Documents and drawings as required.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:


  • City and Guilds or NVQ in a mechanical discipline
  • Knowledge of boilers, pressure systems, ventilation, and medical gas (desirable)
  • HTM knowledge (desirable)
  • Experience in Hard Services FM within a commercial environment (large static sites/estates desirable)
