We are currently looking for a Maintenance Assistant to be based at school in Bramhope.
The role is 7am -3pm and involves opening the school and managing all the maintenance across the site, both PPM and reactive. The role is hard services biased so would suit someone from a handyperson background. The main aim of this role is to manage all facilities and safety aspects of the school to provide a positive working environment for the students and staff.
The role is based on the site 85% of the time with the other 15% being at a school in either Otley or Hunslet as needed to cover holidays so access to a vehicle on occasion and driving license are essential.
Duties of the role include:
- Ensuring security integrity of the school buildings and grounds through locking and unlocking, patrols, monitoring third party contractors.
- Conduct initial investigations for reactive requests, carrying out the repairs or reporting the damage to the helpdesk
- Carry out either physical or visual checks of water systems, Fire Alarms, Fire Doors, Fire Extinguishers, Plant Rooms.
- Respond to emergency situations such as floods, bodily fluids and effecting temporary or permanent rectification in accordance with prescribed procedures and timescales
- Respond to request for collection of parcels, movement of furniture rearrangement of rooms etc in accordance with prescribed procedures and timescales
- Be observant for H&S issues and ensure that they are rectified or made safe and reported to management
- Being proactive by noticing deficiencies in the facilities and either rectifying if within capabilities or bringing the defect to the attention of management
- Responsible for the grounds of the building too so the role will involve some gardening/grass cutting and litter picking as needed.
As this schools is part of a wider portfolio, this is a great stepping stone role with career opportunities if desired. As the role develops the estates manager will be looking for maintenance engineers so this is a great foot into the growing portfolio.

The ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will have experience within the maintenance sector and ideally be qualified in a technical discipline or have a good command of hands-on technical experience.
You must be able to pass an Enhanced DBS check in an education environment. Good customer service skills
- Strong handyperson skills - plumbing, electrical and joinery (qualifications desirable but not essential)
- Amenable and approachable personality
- Willingness to learn new skills and undertake training to develop role
- Flexible and adaptable in approach
- Able to work the shift pattern and out of hours calls as needed
- Enhanced DBS check
