Director of Estates, Facilities & Capital Planning

Assynt House, Inverness

Executive Grade E £81,863 to £107,527 per annum - full time 37.5 hours

We are looking for a talented and ambitious Director of Estates, Facilities and Capital Planning to lead the function through a period of major transformation across our services.
As we prepare for a different way of delivering services as a result of the Covid-19 situation and an ambitious capital investment programme including the development of an Elective Care Centre, we have created a new and exciting opportunity to shape our Estates strategy, oversee our Capital programmes and to lead on the integration of the estates and facilities structures across NHS Highland.
This post will lead and manage the Strategic and Operational Estates, Facilities Services and Capital Planning Functions of NHS Highland, and will be responsible for creating an integrated and effective function which will provide the appropriate environments to enable quality clinical care in all NHS Highland healthcare facilities, and the non-clinical support services to allow them to function safely. The post will also manage the NHS Highland property portfolio and other assets. The postholder will be at the heart of designing and delivering key elements of the changes needed for the future sustainability of services to our patients and communities.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience at a senior level in managing Estates and Facilities in a Healthcare or NHS organisation, or the private sector.
They will also have experience of developing strategy and leading major organisational change, up to date legal and technical knowledge in the operational areas and a track record of delivering a range of major Capital projects. As a professional leader with well-developed influencing and communication skills, they will have the ability to build strong relationships across our complex organisation and into the wider NHS Scotland.
The post holder will oversee a revenue budget of approximately £45m alongside delivery of a Capital programme of c£65m. There are around 800 WTE staff working across the division.
The post will report directly to the Board Chief Executive, with whom you will work closely, contributing to the development and management of the overall Corporate Agenda and taking the lead on a wide range of Board priorities.
NHS Highland is responsible for the health of a population of over 310,000 people across the Highlands, including Argyll and Bute. In 2020/21 NHS Highland has a Revenue budget of over £920m and a Capital budget of £65m which includes a number of significant projects which are anticipated in the next five years including the Elective Care Centre.
Our predominantly remote and rural Board covers 41% of the land mass of Scotland from Caithness to Campbeltown. We are a fully integrated health and care system, with the ground-breaking Lead Agency model of the Highland Health and Social Care Partnership, created in 2012 as well as an Integrated Joint Board overseeing the Health & Social Care Partnership model in Argyll & Bute.
The Highlands offer an excellent quality of life and work life balance in an area of outstanding natural beauty with a range of cultural, musical, leisure and sporting opportunities throughout the year. Inverness, which is rapidly expanding is the ‘happiest’ city in Scotland with well-established road, rail and air links. Schools in the Highlands are rated very highly, crime rates are the lowest in Scotland and there is a wide range of urban, suburban and rural property within easy commuting distance of Inverness. Do come and join us here.

For informal discussion, please contact Paul Hawkins, Chief Executive, on 01463 704838 or Paul.Hawkins5@nhs.net.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications: 22nd June 2020
Interviews will be held in Inverness on 14th and 15th July 2020
