A leading cleaning and facilities management provider has been selected as a partner for the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.

Redwigwam, the UK’s largest flexible working community, is an approved gateway provider to create job placements for 16-24-year-olds on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

The £2billion programme allows employers to offer fully funded 6-month work placements to young people.

The scheme, which guarantees workers 25 hours per week, aims to provide them with opportunities to learn new skills and have the best possible chance to move into long-term, sustained employment.

In addition to taking up the placements, workers will also have the chance to apply for a wide variety of flexible jobs by being part of the wigwammer community where they can also access training and development opportunities.

The company’s AI-powered platform currently has over 130,000 workers and 4,500 hirers registered.

Lorna Davidson, Founder and CEO of Redwigwam, which is based in Liverpool, said: “We are thrilled to have been selected by the Government as a gateway for its Kickstart Scheme.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the challenges facing many young people in finding work and businesses in being able to access talent.

“This innovative programme provides opportunities for employers to recruit workers on six-month placements in the knowledge that either the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage will be fully covered.

“We are passionate about finding new ways to support young talent and nurture them in our community, as well as help employers and the economy to bounce back better during these extraordinary times. We are therefore delighted to now be a Kickstart Gateway which provides a long enough period of work for workers to be able to learn and develop new skills and for hirers to see the benefits of having additional resource in their businesses.”

The Kickstart Scheme aims to create 350,000 job placements. Businesses have the flexibility to be able to top up a worker’s pay and increase the number of hours to 40.

All placements must be a new job and offer full training and development. All candidates are verified by the Department for Work and Pensions.

Redwigwam, whose purpose is ‘Changing work for good’ was established in 2016 by successful entrepreneur Lorna Davidson. The company’s unique AI-platform uses algorithms to match workers with flexible jobs.

Businesses using the Redwigwam community to find workers include Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s, Morrisons, Tesco, Burton’s Biscuits, SimplyCook, Proper and the Snaffling Pig Company.
