Government launches Kickstart Scheme for young people
As part of the Government’s plans to boost job creation in the UK, a new £2 billion Kickstart scheme which was announced by the Chancellor in the Summer has launched, and aims to create six-month placements for hundreds of thousands of young people.
The creation of new, fully subsidised jobs are open to those aged 16-24, and who are claiming Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.
Employers will receive funding for 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum auto-enrolment pension contributions. There is also £1,500 per job placement available for set up costs, support and training.
The first placements are likely to be available from November and are obtainable across a range of sectors in England, Scotland and Wales.
Extra funding will also be available to help young people further their experience and assist them into sustained employment following completion of their Kickstart funded placement.
Employers can now start to submit their applications for a grant - check the guidance for employers to see if you are eligible for funding.
