Women and Manual Trades (WaMT) partners with Brookhouse Training to launch career pathway into gas engineering for Ex-Military women

Women and Manual Trades (WaMT) has announced a new initiative in partnership with Brookhouse Training aimed at opening up new career opportunities for ex-military women.
WaMT operates as part of Procure Plus, a not-for-profit company, after initially existing as an independent charity, to support women currently working in or looking to enter the construction trades.
The new programme offers a fast-track route for women transitioning from the armed forces into skilled employment.
Participants will carry out eight weeks of comprehensive training provided by Brookhouse Training and 18 weeks of work placement with a reputable employer.
The initiative equips participants to become qualified Gas Engineers in just six months, with potential earnings of £50,000 or more once fully qualified.
Eligible participants can access Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Services (ELCAS) funding to help cover training costs, and additional financial support is also available through small bursaries provided by WaMT.
WaMT is now inviting employers to host 18-week placements, offering the chance to gain skilled trainees while contributing to key social value goals by supporting women and ex-forces personnel into long-term careers.
For employers, funding support will be available through ELCAS, Procure Plus’ charitable arm Re:vision, and other external charities.
“Ex-military women bring an incredible set of skills to the workforce such as discipline, leadership, and resilience. Having served in the British Army myself, I know how valuable those qualities are in civilian careers,” said Megan Lee, Employment and Training Manager for the WaMT programme at Procure Plus.
“This programme gives women the chance to channel those strengths into a rewarding new career. By partnering with Brookhouse Training, we’re not just offering a qualification but supporting a practical pathway to long-term employment.
“This initiative also gives employers the opportunity to make a real social impact, opening up more opportunities for women and helping to reshape the future of the industry.”
Employers and potential participants interested in getting involved are encouraged to contact Megan Lee by calling 07747 615 343 or emailing megan.lee@procure-plus.com.
WaMT supports women currently working in or looking to enter the construction trades by collaborating with a variety of construction industry employers and trade bodies to make tradeswomen the norm - not the exception.
