Organisations collaborate to ignite interest in FM career opportunities
In a joint effort to encourage young people to pursue careers in workplace and facilities management, Lexington Reception Services, Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM) and Lloyd’s joined forces to offer an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the iconic Lloyd’s building in the City of London.
Organised by IWFM’s Rising FMs Network, and sponsored by Lexington Catering Ltd, the event aimed to introduce young minds to the dynamic opportunities within the FM industry. Participants were treated to an immersive tour of the renowned Lloyd’s building.
Darren Cox, Senior Facilities & Stakeholder Manager Corporate Real Estate at Lloyd’s, stated: “Recruiting young people into the industry is close to my heart. FM offers so many varied career opportunities and I want to make sure that young people have the same chances I had.”
Led by the Liveried Waiters of Lloyd’s, who are part of the Lexington Reception Services Team, participants gained insights into the historic significance of the building. The rising stars of the FM world got to know their peers while networking and enjoying some fantastic food provided by chefs from Lexington Catering.
Designed for newcomers to the FM world, the tour catered to individuals aged 18-35 who have recently entered the industry or undergone re-training. This event forms part of IWFM’s on-going efforts to provide young people with valuable insights into the wide -ranging career opportunities available in FM.
Matt Wood, Managing Director of Lexington, emphasised the significance of showcasing the diverse array of roles available in facilities management and said: “This was a great opportunity to highlight the range of roles available for young people and anyone new to the industry considering a career in facilities management. FM encompasses multiple options from soft services and facilities assistants to building managers.”
Elliot Valentine, IWFM Rising FMs Chair said: “It was a pleasure to discuss the benefits of a career in workplace and facilities management (WFM) with a group of young minds in such an iconic building. Through initiatives like our Career of Choice Toolkit, pathway for professional development and IWFM Mentoring, IWFM aims to engage the next generation of professionals to enhance our sector and community, cementing WFM as a lynchpin profession.
