BaxterStorey makes keys appointments to enhance Service Academy training

BaxterStorey has appointed Diego Masciaga and Alessandro Fasoli as mentors on the company’s training initiative, the Service Academy.

The Service Academy was launched earlier this year and BaxterStorey is the first foodservice business in the UK to be accredited as an Approved Programme Provider (APP) of Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) qualifications. The Academy is designed to ensure hospitality staff across the business are equipped with skills and confidence to provide a service to rival that of a five-star hotel.

Masciaga’s appointment follows 30 years spent as general manager at the Waterside Inn, the Roux family’s three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Bray, Berkshire. Fasoli holds the role of general manager at the Michelin-starred The Woodspeen & Cookery School, where he has been for four years. For the last twenty years, Masciaga has acted as a mentor to Fasoli, and the pair are now excited to be working together and bringing their experience and expertise to those training within BaxterStorey’s Service Academy.

The service specialists, who have both received the prestigious Master of Culinary Arts (MCA) award for Service and Management from the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts will spend time advising those enrolled on the Service Academy onsite and offsite, and apprentices will learn from them through one-on-one coaching as well as group masterclasses and seminars. The pair will spend the next six months supporting the first cohort of apprentices as they work towards finishing the Academy, and then work with the second cohort, who start this month, from the beginning of their programme.

Commenting on the partnership, Masciaga said: “I am so excited to be joining the BaxterStorey family, which I admire for its work in the hospitality industry and, more specifically in the service sector. My long career front of house has taught me to recognise the sheer pleasure that comes from helping people – a value which I know that Alastair Storey [chairman and chief executive of WSH, the parent company of BaxterStorey] shares, and one that is prominent throughout BaxterStorey. I look forward to helping the apprentices on the Service Academy to help people in the best possible way that they can in their roles front of house.”

Commenting on the Service Academy, Fasoli said: “The Service Academy provides those choosing to pursue a career in the sector with unrivalled training and opportunities. I admire how seriously BaxterStorey takes this profession and am happy to be able to play a part in providing its employees with a vision of how a career in the industry can take shape. Those going into careers in the kitchen have long been surrounded by numerous role models as more and more high-profile chefs have taken the lime light. I was incredibly lucky to have Diego as my mentor throughout my career and I am excited that together we can now do the same for those enrolled on the Service Academy.”
