Design Engineer

Manchester

Key Responsibilities:


  • Through conduct, behaviours and action support the implementation for the client, through the design process.
  • Develop sprinkler system designs, coordinating with chief designers, sales engineers, project managers and client representatives and specifications.
  • Co-ordinate design programme by monitoring against the construction project programme/project plan.
  • Liaise with managers / site & department / divisional contacts as required through the development of the design life cycle.
  • Liaise with client sites and attend project site meetings as required.
  • Prepare complete working drawings in accordance with the appropriate design codes including establishing pipe sizes by hydraulic calculations.
  • From design drawings, list off materials for various purposes including material procurement, estimating of variations, schedule of rates etc.
  • Forward drawings / quantities of materials listed to suppliers/subcontractors for procurement purposes.
  • Control document issue and revisions and ensure distribution to all relevant parties as required including design approval submission.
  • Support the clients continued compliance to all relevant internal processes / procedures, appropriate schemes, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate, accessible, and comprehensive design calculation records.
  • Undertake comprehensive design risk assessments and maintain records of of same.
  • Familiarise & comply with all company policies & procedures.
  • Support colleagues by undertaking independent & documented design validation/review as required (depending upon LPC qualification level)

Qualifications/Experience/Progression Pertinent to the Role:


  • Familiarity with all standard MS applications.
  • Strong communication skills in all disciplines including written, oral and email
  • Strong time management skills
  • Full driving license
  • Full working knowledge of BS EN 12845 / BS9251 / FM / NFPA design principles
  • Working knowledge of CAD
  • Knowledge of sprinkler systems, constituent parts & their application
  • Familiarity with FHC software eg. Canute
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) / 3D engineering drawing technics
  • Working knowledge of Design Risk Assessments
