Fire Alarm, UPS & Calibration Maintenance Engineer, Falklands

Full time - £32,000 - £38,000 (Tax Free with bonuses)



Job Purpose



Act as the lead and Subject Matter Expert on all alarms and UPS related issues, as well as planning and directing all activities for the operation and maintenance of the alarm systems and UPS across MPC and remote sites. Ensures facilities are maintained according to guidelines outlined in SOPs, all manufacturers' recommendations for maintenance, all relevant JSPs and regulations



Responsibilities




  • Act as point of contact for communications between company and end user alarms and UPS systems, establish and maintain good working relationships with Military and civilian personal


  • Make sure maintenance staff follow the procedures and plans provided by the SoP and regulation at all times.


  • Overarching responsibility for the various alarm systems and UPS maintenance, ensure the special systems team complete all PPM and Help desk tasks within KPI's


  • Organise power outage with end user to cause minimum amount of disruption to the base.


  • Delegate functional activities to workers and establishes supervisory schedules and responsibilities to ensure quality and timeliness of independent decisions required to provide continuous service to the client and safety of workers.


  • Line management responsibilities for the special services team


  • Ensure adequate training of maintenance staff as required to complete the day to day tasks.


  • Identify faults and order spares as required


  • Assist management with monthly/annual report of operations.


  • Implement all Health, Safety and Environment plans and procedures and related regulatory plans.


  • Ensures the reliability of the Health& Safety of staff and maintains the proper records, and conducts periodic training for department.


  • Oversee proactive program to recognise,


  • identify and correct operational problems within all facility. Investigates, evaluates, and determines best application of new developments in replacement systems, and devises other means of securing maximum efficiency of personnel and equipment. ·


  • Assist/coordinate/cooperate with audits and other assurance inspection


  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times.


  • Streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.


  • Report all defect, incidents and product non-conformities.


  • Willingness to attend and pass training courses as required for the post · Perform other duties as requested by the line management



Knowledge Skills & Experience




  • Required Skills/Abilities: Extensive knowledge of security and fire alarm systems and installation.


  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.


  • Ability to read installation and system manuals.


  • Ability to read blueprints and building plans.


  • Extensive knowledge of electrical and fire codes.


  • Ability to use hand and power tools to install hardware.


  • Install and program control panels and all other equipment for fire alarm systems with the guidance of building plans and electrical layouts


  • Mount sensors at appropriate locations, performing all necessary tasks, such as drilling holes for cabling and accessing locations such as crawlspaces or attics to ensure optimal wiring layouts


  • Install all wiring to connect system components, complying with all applicable safety standards and with customer's concerns or preferences


  • Show customers how to use alarm system, discuss any questions or concerns and ensure customers are fully satisfied with the service they receive o Inspect and test systems to ensure all components are performing well and comply with safety requirements


  • Review installation manuals, building plans and work orders to plan optimal locations for system components and wiring


  • Identify and repair malfunctions in system components or wiring, including ordering and installing replacement parts as necessary Compose and submit documentation and reports for each installation or repair visit, complying with company's standard operating procedure reqiured:


  • Certification in Fire Alarm & Detection Equipment or equivalent


  • Proficiency in alarm panels


  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record


  • Top customer service skills


  • Preferred: Networking experience with security, CCTV systems or other


  • Computer aided design (CAD) software knowledge Duties/Responsibilities UPS


  • Perform service support activities, troubleshoot and repair single and three phase uninterruptible power supplies and peripherals. · Essential Functions


  • Perform on-site customer service of UPSD products to include start-up service, preventative and remedial maintenance field modification, and testing.


  • Provide technical support to internal military customers, including third party service organizations and end users, via telephone, email and site visits


  • Schedule and provide emergency technical support and field service on an on-call basis.


  • Work with other UPS support UK based company's to determine product solutions for improved performance and protection. Identify, evaluate and repair routine product failures.


  • Support and make recommendations to improve Company policies and procedures.


  • Recommend service product offerings for the long term maintenance of the capital investment; e.g., battery upgrades.


  • Troubleshoot malfunctions to a board level in an UPS system.


  • Troubleshoot and repair UPS system failures with minimal guidance.


  • Instruct less experienced technicians on troubleshooting system failures.


  • Maintain service records and documentation of services provided.


  • Complete help desk and PPM tasks within KPI's


  • Calibration In this role applicants will be responsible for making sure the instruments and testing devices are calibrated correctly and give accurate readings in line with standards.


  • Applicants will be expected to perform this role meticulously, as improper calibration can cause issues concerning safety. Therefore, being able to work well with hands and pay attention to detail is vital, as well as problem-solving skills and ability to work well and effectively with others.


  • The role will be office based, requiring applicants to stay on top of recording calibrations and producing technical reports. For this role applicants must demonstrate an understanding of the technical processes and tools associated with calibrating, scientific knowledge concerning statistics and Maths, and skills with data analysis and presentation.


  • Understanding of related terms and technical jargon is imperative to this role.


  • Basic IT skills and familiarity with common software packages are useful


  • Perform accurate calibrations


  • Organise service schedules


  • Record calibrations performed on equipment - Troubleshoot failed instruments


  • Calibrate in multiple parameters in line with equipment use


  • Understand and work within Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA)


  • Work to ISO 9001: 2015 & 17025: 2017 standard


  • Carry out quality inspections


  • Qualified in Electrical Electronics or related technical field plus 2-5 years' experience in troubleshooting and repair of a technical, electrical and/or electronic product or equivalent education and experience.


  • Developed knowledge of UPS products, services and peripherals.


  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency of mechanical and electronic test equipment.


  • Developed verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate with others on all levels, including customers, in a professional manner. Excellent level of computer literacy: Word, Excel.


  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent planning and programming skills


  • Demonstrate good analytical and reporting skills.


  • Demonstrate a good understanding of Safe Systems of Work in electrical discipline.


  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of alarm systems and UPS maintenance


  • Relevant operational management of planning or delivering pre-planned and reactive maintenance


  • Have working knowledge of, and effectively use workshop manuals and computer diagnostic equipment to diagnose and repair defects.



Person




  • Must have a clean driving license for category B (CAR)


  • Effective interpersonal skills.


  • Have working knowledge of operations within an MOD environment


  • Previous experience of working in MOD site including the Falklands Islands or other overseas station. Would be an advantage



On offer is a base salary, monthly site allowance (10%) and a bonus at the 12 th month. Hours of work are 47.5 per week. The contract duration is permanent, unaccompanied with 33 days leave excluding weekends. Air/sea transport for agreed holiday periods will be at Company's expense. Free accommodation, meals at mess and work clothing will be provided. Tax free status on island.
