Job description

The postholder will have the Area responsibility for Health and Safety (H&S) and Facilities Management (FM).

They will provide competent detail, assurance and coordination to the Head of Health and Safety, Head of Business Centre, Area Business Manager (ABM) and Chief Crown Prosecutor (CCP) to allow them, line managers and staff to discharge their duties as required under H&S legislation and CPS Policy and arrangements.

They will have responsibility for the day to day oversight, monitoring and review of a range of hard and soft FM service activities delivered to the CPS Estate covering all aspects of delivery, audit and statutory compliance.

Provide advice and guidance to staff and managers on relevant subject matter.

They will have responsibility for ensuring the efficient running of the CPS buildings in their region with responsibility for H&S compliance within those buildings including ensuring that each building has the appropriate safety documentation in place to fulfil departmental and legal requirements.

The postholder will work collaboratively with Estates, H&S colleagues and the wider FM and H&S community sharing good practice and lessons learnt to deliver the business and to ensure resilience.

Responsibilities

Take a proactive lead role in monitoring, managing and escalating issues in Area with the day-to-day performance of the hard and soft FM providers to ensure they are delivered within contract resolution timescales and to meet customer expectations.

Provide advice on internal FM and H&S matters. Be responsible for liaising with the HQ H&S and FM teams and providing accurate advice and support on health and safety matters and issues to CPS colleagues.

Gather and report on H&S performance data for buildings used by CPS such as Court buildings and where required, recommending areas for further improvement. This will include carrying out investigations, inspections and assessments related to health and safety and facilities provision.

Maintain an ongoing review of the office service matrix provision working with Estates to ensure right services and changes are affected in accordance with contract and to time

The postholder will liaise and influence change with external partners within the courts and police stations regarding risks/accommodation and FM and H&S issues that need to be rectified, ensuring timely resolution.

Respond to business areas questions on health and safety matters and ensure they support the department’s health and safety objectives.

This is a full-time post. However, requests for flexible and part-time working will be considered, considering at all times the operational needs of the Department.

Candidates who are recommended by the selection panel but not appointed to the current vacancy will be placed on a waiting list for 12 months and may be offered another post, should any further vacancies for a Health, Safety and Facilities Manager arise during this period. CPS may also approach candidates on the waiting list to fill other roles requiring similar knowledge and experience.
