A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint a Head of Health & Safety – Must have experience within the NHS/Healthcare setting.

This is a 6-month interim assignment working in the South-Central location on a band 8b.

Ensuring the organisation has appropriate health and safety, security and fire safety management policies, processes and systems in place, and that these are embedded across the organisation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance to Senior Management on all aspects of effective health and safety management issues, legislative implications and to assist them to systematically identify hazards, assess risk and develop strategies to manage them;
  • Develop and maintain training programmes and supporting documentation for staff, managers and directors ensuring that responsibilities are recognised and undertaken;
  • Develop the culture of health and safety across the organisation, developing the health and safety team to support this;
  • Monitor the compliance with health and safety training, providing regular reports to service directors of levels of non-compliance;
  • Ensure that the investigation of Health and Safety Incidents is appropriately undertaken, drawing on health, safety and security expertise and experience alongside knowledge and understanding of legislation and good practice;
  • Provide regular reports identifying health and safety incidents and concerns, identifying trends/areas of concern, and including any recommendations and improvements made that have been identified because of feedback;
  • Establishing and nurturing effective working relationships with staff side Health and Safety Representatives, Fire Authorities, Local Police Authorities and NHS Protect.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Significant experience within the NHS/Healthcare Setting;
  • Management level expertise within Estates - Health and Safety;
  • Good working knowledge of current health and safety and fire safety related legislation;
  • Security management expertise.
