A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint a Fire Safety Advisor on an interim basis for 3 months.

This is a band 7 post, working in the South-Central location.

Promote fire safety compliance throughout the organisation and ensure that all premises maintain high standards of fire precautions.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of statutory fire training to all personnel, arranging specialist courses for fire response teams, fire wardens and patient evacuation techniques.;
  • Deliver training and educational seminars in conjunction with other members of the Compliance, Health and Safety and Risk Team as appropriate;
  • Advise on any issues which would result in failure to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005;
  • Provide informed advice about current best practice and technical guidance;
  • Provide fire-related policies and procedures and ensure a programme of review and revision is undertaken, as necessary;
  • Establish, manage and coordinate the provision of fire risk assessments, audits and inspections and maintain records of such for the organisation’s premises;
  • Provide technical advice to planners, estates management teams and project leaders on new build and refurbishment projects;
  • Enact/maintain the incident investigating and reporting procedure for fire and other general safety issues;
  • Provide assurance that contractors on sites are installing fire safety measures to an acceptable standard;
  • Co-operate in full on the implementation of health and safety arrangements and report any accidents, near-misses, defects with work equipment or inadequate safety arrangements to his/her manager;
  • Liaise with service partners to implement remedial works to ensure fire systems and fire safety equipment if operational and complaint;
  • Carry out annual quality audits of fire alarm systems to ensure service partners are complaint with the service contract and service delivery.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Specialist Fire Safety Courses e.g., Fire Service College or NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety
  • and Risk Management and or relevant Fire Service experience;
  • Qualification in Risk Assessment and/or Health and Safety Regulations;
  • Understand and undertake fire risk assessments within a healthcare environment;
  • Significant experience of Fire safety management providing expert advice and knowledge on fire
  • safety, fire risk management, fire legislation and codes of practice and fire safety training;
  • Ability to carry out fire safety audits and risk assessments;
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to improve performance and make a difference by focusing on goals.
