When you think of government technology what do you imagine? Months to assemble IT requirements, years to build services, and not a customer in sight?

The truth couldn’t be more different!

At HMRC, we are already one of the most digital organisations in the UK. We have one of the largest data sources, and we're building a world-class IT function. With 50 million customers to serve, over 60 thousand colleagues to support, and £600 billion to collect to fund UK Plc, our IT operation is huge. Operating on a stage this big would faze many, and it is not for everyone. But, for those who are up to the challenge, we offer unique and unparalleled opportunities to work with some of the newest technologies and make a real, lasting difference.

Here in HMRC’s Chief Digital & Information Group (CDIO) we’re increasingly delivering in-house through our growing network of digital delivery centres – hi-tech, state-of-the-art facilities across the UK.  We’re removing our dependence on data centres, as we increasingly virtualise our estate. We’re fundamentally restructuring the way we look after our IT and the way we work with partners across our ecosystem. But it’s not just about the tech. We’re building a deep understanding of our customers, working in agile ways, and implementing a DevOps approach. SAP SE considers HMRC as one of their top tier platinum clients in the public sector globally.

This significant organisational transition involves changes to our operating model to drive an increased focus on our customers and develop new capabilities. Our task is to continue to deliver high-quality services and technology as they drive this transformation, while providing an outstanding service to our internal and external customers and ensuring a great experience for everyone who interacts with HMRC.

We focus on our people, with clearly defined career pathways that are rewarding, fulfilling and achievable. We have flexible ways of working to help everyone run their own work/life balance. And we’re building an authentically diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels able to bring their whole self to work.

This is your opportunity to join us on the exciting journey of a complete Digital Transformation within HMRC!

The team

The SAP Practice is a delivery and operational team within HMRC and is involved with many high-profile government programs and initiatives that directly contribute to HMRC’s wider transformation ambitions. Our remit includes ownership of HMRC’s SAP service applications, having responsibility for financial management, governance and performance. The team also leads on licence requirements for SAP services, ensuring optimum value for money.

This is an exciting time to join the team, working directly to the Senior Live Service Manager as we transform into a matured DevOps led SAP Practice, working with our Partners who are committed to provide supplementary functional and platform support while we build our team, developing in-house capabilities to provide outstanding SAP Solutions and Services.

The role

In this role you will develop your understanding of operational management of SAP Live Service and contribute to building the future roadmap for HMRCs SAP estate. You will be involved in coordinating all aspects of the daily operational running of SAP Live Services, building and maintaining relationships with customers and suppliers to ensure high-quality, cost effective provision of services that support business needs.

We have a strong team ethos of continual self-improvement where knowledge and experience are openly shared, so active contribution to the team and supporting its ongoing development is a crucial part of the role.
