We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to be based at Lakenheath on a large site with some travel to another site in Mildenhall. You will work as part of a large on site team and work on the mechanical assets of the site including steel and copper pipe work up to 2 inches and pumps, as well as small fixtures within the properties such as taps, sinks, drainage etc.

The role of Mechanical Engineer is to be responsible for all planned and reactive maintenance across a large portfolio of commercial properties including schools, offices, hospitals, retail units and large warehouse facilities.

Duties of the role include:


  • Delivering all planned maintenance work across the portfolio
  • Respond positively to reactive requests as required, ensuring workloads are managed alongside the planned maintenance regime.
  • Carrying out maintenance duties to Mechanical, Electrical and Building Fabric systems, plant and equipment, with specific responsibility for the maintenance of mechanical systems, plant and equipment including but not necessarily limited to the following services: a. Heating services; b. Hot/cold water services; c. Gas distribution; d. Ventilation; e. Air conditioning (AHU's); and f. Other mechanical services along side a team of engineers.


  • Keeping on top of new industry developments and being an advocate for strong levels of compliance and health and safety.
  • Liaising with subcontractors on specialist works
  • Taking part in a call out rota - 1 week in 4. Being on call means you are payable for a standby allowance and also paid at an overtime rate if called out.

The applicant:

The ideal applicant will come from a hands on background themselves and have experience managing a team. The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:


  • Qualified in a mechanical discipline
  • Strong experience with plumbing and pipework in a commercial environment.
  • FM experience
  • Team management experience
  • Willing to act as responsible person (RP) for compliance purposes
  • Good organisation skills
