We have an exciting opportunity for a Facilities Management Contracts Supervisor to join our team. You’ll own the ‘non specialist’ contract/service delivery, ensuring samples of the quality of FM work are checked regularly, with findings reported back to the FM team providing a quality assurance input to the continuous improvement of the FM team’s triaging service.


  • Supervise contractors during samples of planned and reactive works ensuring smooth delivery of repairs and maintenance
  • Achieve and demonstrate value for money returns in accordance with Commercial Relationship Manager’s benchmarked costings on FM work
  • Visit samples of contractor works after completion and report on findings to the FM team
  • Deliver all programmes of works in line with Southern Co-op Health and Safety policy requirements
  • Deliver all programmes of works in line with Southern Co-op Environmental policy requirements
  • Advise the FM team, Property and SC Customers on FM technical matters
  • Monitor and encourage FM contractors participation within SC’s Contractor Approval process
  • Monitor and report on FM financial performance against an agreed budget and to influence Heads of Retail and ELS Senior Management in relation to the prioritisation of workflow in accordance to both SC budget restrictions and SC policy
  • Assist in the scheduling of statutory work and ensure that the agreed remedial follow up work is reported when completed and checked in a timely matter
  • Proactively identify and analyse FM related trends to reduce repeated faults and identify key issues for resolution
  • Contact with Store/Branch Managers and Area Business Manager/Sector Operations Manager engagement of planned programmes of work or reactive works of significant urgency
  • Manage “serious events” e.g. ram raids, floods, gas and power issues
  • Assist in the assessment of contractor suitability and be capable of tendering works and making relevant recommendations
  • Work with the Safety, Health and Environment Team to manage risk and ensure mandatory compliance
  • Provide weekend emergency cover on a rota based system as agreed with the Commercial Relationship Manager
  • Deputise for Commercial Relationship Manager on all technical matters.


  • Previous practical experience in FM Contract/Contractor management
  • Member of MBIFM / RICS Facilities Manager
  • A critical thinker with strong listening and exploratory skills with the capacity to identify lateral solutions to problems based on experience of commercial, safety and operational interests
  • Self-starter capable at managing issues from start to end with minimal support
  • Comfortable with providing positive challenge in consideration of “nice to have” versus “need to have” challenges
  • Experienced programme manager with experience of working under pressure
  • Able to demonstrate high standards of personal and professional integrity
  • Proven retail, property and/or engineering experience
  • Experienced in financial management and budgeting
  • Capable of identifying cost savings/avoidance
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Prepared to be on call and work out of normal working hours where applicable
  • Full UK driving licence
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in occupational Health and Safety or equivalent would be advantageous
