A large NHS organisation is currently seeing to appoint an experienced Manual Handling Trainer to join their busy hospital team – this post is for an initial period of 3 months but is likely to extend.  

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing an evidence-based specialist moving and handling service across the organisation;
  • Must develop and maintain their own expertise relating to moving and handling; this role provides specialist skills and knowledge in moving and handling and back care awareness, and assists in the promotion of safer handling and postural practices to minimise work- related ill health;
  • Assist in the delivery of an organisation wide, specialised moving and handling education and training programme that minimises risk for staff and patients;
  • The programme will encompass requirements specific to individual work areas and be delivered in ward and community settings, to various professions and grades of staff;
  • Assist with review and monitoring of current training content and arrangements, to permit the development of training programmes and materials;
  • Deliver training in a variety of formats and at a variety of levels appropriate to staff needs;
  • Contribute to the training and support of other professionals who may in turn assist in the delivery of workplace manual handling training and provide support to staff in their locality/work area, i.e. the manual handling workplace ‘Key Trainers’;
  • Provide advice in the use of moving and handling equipment both in training venues and work areas;
  • Assist in the delivery of training and education for external agencies as part of the manual handling service income generation portfolio;

A successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of manual handling theory, procedure and equipment;
  • Hold relevant knowledge and experience of health and safety legislation, also risk assessment and risk reduction processes;
  • Must hold relevant Teaching/assessing/training qualification within Manual Handling in a healthcare/patient facing environment.
