A large NHS organisation is currently seeing the appointment a Health and Safety Specialist with experience working in a healthcare environment. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert support, training and advice to the Trust and trust staff on all aspects of Health and Safety and Fire Legislation;
  • Ensure that the Trust is able to demonstrate full compliance with this legislation and to prevent incidents and protect Trust employees;
  • Provide competent advice to all Oxleas staff on the requirements of current Health and Safety legislation, initiatives and guidelines;
  • Hold the role of competent person for the trust when required;
  • Deputise for the Health and Safety Manager when required, lead the trust in Health & Safety compliance, providing specialist advice to the trust on risk assessments and controls;
  • Promote a positive Health and Safety culture and ensure all works are
  • undertaken with the highest regard to the safety of patients, staff, visitors and contractors;
  • Actively participate in, design, schedule and deliver Trust wide health and safety promotional and training programmes;
  • Continually review Health and Safety Policies and Procedures (e.g. security, fire safety, food safety, major incident etc.);
  • Initiate and co-ordinate the investigation and follow-up of level 4 incidents and ensure RIDDOR reportable incidents have been reported as appropriate;
  • Work closely with the FM team and contractors to ensure that the
  • necessary risk assessment e.g. waste management, food safety,
  • legionella, fire and asbestos risk assessments are carried out and that the appropriate controls are in place.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Hold a NEBOSH Diploma, ideally hold membership (CMIOSH) of the
  • Chartered Institute of Occupational Safety and Health;
  • 5 years Health and Safety related experience gained within the NHS,
  • or other similarly complex organisations;
  • Working knowledge of all relevant statues, codes of practice, British
  • Standards, Hospital Technical Memorandum (HTMs) & Building
  • Regulations.
