Overview We are looking for a Data Centre Technician to join a high-performing operations team in a mission-critical data centre environment in Docklands, London.
This is a hands-on engineering role ideal for candidates with experience in data centres, critical environments, or building services (electrical/mechanical).
You will be responsible for maintaining uptime, resilience, and operational performance across critical infrastructure including UPS systems, generators, HVAC, and BMS-controlled environments.

Overview We are looking for a Data Centre Technician to join a high-performing operations team in a mission-critical data centre environment in Docklands, London.
This is a hands-on engineering role ideal for candidates with experience in data centres, critical environments, or building services (electrical/mechanical).
You will be responsible for maintaining uptime, resilience, and operational performance across critical infrastructure including UPS systems, generators, HVAC, and BMS-controlled environments.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Incident Response
- Respond to critical alarms, faults, and system alerts within a live data centre environment
- Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) to ensure optimal performance
- Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on electrical and mechanical systems
- Perform switching operations, start-up and shutdown procedures on critical plant (UPS, generators, HVAC)
- Follow and execute change control procedures and operational documentation
- Support incident management, emergency response, and client communications
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in line with SLAs
- Maintain and optimise critical infrastructure systems for reliability and efficiency
- Support BMS (Building Management Systems) and EMS monitoring
- Conduct technical audits, inspections, and compliance checks
- Identify and implement continuous improvement and energy efficiency initiatives
- Operate within a strict Permit to Work (PTW) system
- Review RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
- Follow site procedures including SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs
- Accurately log all work in CMMS / CAFM systems
- Produce technical reports on asset performance (UPS, batteries, plant systems)
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety and statutory regulations
- Work closely with Technical Managers, engineers, and shift teams
- Support and mentor junior engineers and apprentices
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
- Electrical apprenticeship / NVQ / City & Guilds or equivalent qualification
- Experience in data centres, critical environments, facilities management, or building services
- Strong knowledge of:
- Electrical systems (LV/HV)
- UPS systems & generators
- HVAC / cooling systems
- Experience with BMS / EMS systems
- Proven ability in fault finding and maintenance of critical infrastructure
- Strong understanding of health & safety compliance
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in a live environment
- Experience in mission-critical or high-availability environments
- Knowledge of cGxP / regulated environments
- Familiarity with data centre operations and uptime requirements
- Work in a state-of-the-art data centre supporting critical infrastructure
