The Role
As Lead Shift Engineer, you will oversee both planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring:
Strong technical expertise
Clear communication
The ability to foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) across all mechanical and electrical plant per site schedules and asset registers
Respond promptly to reactive maintenance, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
Diagnose and rectify plant faults to maintain operational performance
Complete statutory maintenance in line with SFG20 requirements
Manage critical spares stock, preparing parts lists and timelines for remedial works
Issue and control Permits to Work for internal teams and subcontractors
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all maintenance and breakdown activities
Maintain strong relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and client representatives
Present a professional, customer-focused approach at all times
Keep plant rooms safe, clean, and compliant
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, SLAs, KPIs, and SHEQ standards
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Electrical or Mechanical Apprenticeship
Proven Facilities Management experience with a strong operational track record
Desirable:
HNC / HND / Foundation Degree
BOAS / BG01
City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
IET 17th Edition
City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 / 2395 (Testing & Inspection) or relevant HVAC qualification
Technical & Professional Skills
Strong knowledge of building services and statutory compliance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAFM systems
Calm, methodical approach under pressure
Experience leading, mentoring, or supporting engineering teams
