Purpose of the Role The Data Centre Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing planned and reactive maintenance activities in collaboration with the Engineering Supervisor and Shift Leader. The role involves close liaison with engineering management and client representatives to ensure all maintenance work is carried out in full compliance with site policies, procedures, and health and safety legislation.

Acting as an Authorised Person (HVAP), the successful candidate will ensure all safety documentation and control procedures are completed to the highest standards in accordance with company policies and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW). While on site, the Data Centre Engineer will report to the Engineering Shift Leader and support shift teams to ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and within site-specific time constraints. This is a continental shift role suited to an experienced HVAP.

Role Summary
  • Ensure routine maintenance of all building plant, equipment, and systems to meet or exceed service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms and carry out emergency repairs as required.
  • Issue, control, and enforce Permit to Work systems.
  • Produce and implement switching schedules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) in line with company policies and SSOW.
  • Maintain evaporative cooling systems and domestic water systems in compliance with L8 regulations.
  • Ensure availability and management of appropriate spare parts.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive maintenance records using REALM task sheets.
  • Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS) for all in-house activities.
  • Supervise engineering subcontractors to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and site operating procedures.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment in line with company and client site policies.
  • Present a professional image to clients and visitors, promoting excellence in customer service.
  • Maintain and develop professional and technical competence through continuous learning.
  • Ensure all work packs include the required documentation, including subcontractor RAMS reviews.
  • Take responsibility for training requirements and personal development updates.
  • Support site incidents and unplanned fault resolution.
  • Carry out all HV Authorised Person (HVAP) duties applicable to the role.
Experience & Skills Required Qualifications & Certifications
  • HV Authorisation (essential)
  • Current Wiring Regulations Certificate
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Manual Handling Training (advantageous)
  • PASMA and IPAF (preferred)
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role within a business-critical or data centre environment.
  • Proven experience managing real-time incidents and faults in critical infrastructure settings.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety obligations related to maintenance activities.
  • Experience working with multiple interlinked systems, including Fire, PMS, and BMS.
