Job Title: Deputy Shift Leader – Engineering Reports to: Engineering Services Manager

Main Purpose of the Role To deliver high-quality Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), Reactive Maintenance, and emergency response services in line with contractual obligations, with a primary focus on electrical systems. The role also includes acting as an Authorised Person (HV) when required, ensuring safe and compliant operation of electrical infrastructure.
Scope of Role This position requires strong leadership behaviours, technical expertise, and a proactive mindset. The Deputy Shift Leader plays a key part in maintaining a strong industry reputation, ensuring engineering service excellence, and building trust with clients. The role demands a team-oriented approach, commitment to Health & Safety, and the ability to work cooperatively to meet service expectations.

Key Responsibilities 1. Compliance & Technical Operations
- Carry out PPM tasks in accordance with schedules and industry standards.
- Ensure engineering best practices are adhered to, maximising system reliability and plant performance.
- Maintain compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA) and site-specific policies.
- Accurately complete all documentation related to maintenance and Quality Assurance.
- Respond promptly to all electrical reactive maintenance tasks and service desk requests.
- Diagnose and rectify faults associated with electrical systems and components.
- Conduct minor installation works and system upgrades as required.
- Maintain and repair lighting systems and electrical distribution infrastructure.
- Support technical surveys and provide material/cost estimates for minor works.
- Act as the first point of contact for client maintenance queries and escalate when needed.
- Supervise visiting subcontractors, ensuring safe working and high standards of delivery.
- Review, implement, and maintain Safe Systems of Work, including SOPs and switching schedules.
- Assist in coordinating cover across nearby sites as necessary to ensure service continuity.
- Maintain strict adherence to company and site HSE policies and procedures.
- Ensure PPE is worn and maintained correctly at all times.
- Participate in incident/accident reporting and investigations.
- Conduct or support internal and external HSE audits.
- Review and update Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) regularly.
- Promote a zero-accident culture, actively supporting HSE initiatives led by management.
- Electrical Apprenticeship (or equivalent) in the building maintenance industry.
- City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 & 2 (Electrical Installation) or equivalent.
- 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (or 18th Edition if updated).
- Sound working knowledge of building services systems (both electrical and mechanical).
- Demonstrated experience in PPM, fault diagnosis, reactive repairs, and testing/inspection.
- Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation and best practices in maintenance environments.
- Strong team player with good organisational and interpersonal skills.
- City & Guilds 2360 Part 3 or equivalent.
- HV Authorised Person status (or experience working under a Permit to Work system).
- Experience in critical, multi-site, or banking/data centre environments.
- Familiarity with BMS (Building Management Systems).
- Working knowledge of UPS systems, emergency power, and backup systems.
- PASMA / IPAF certification.
- Strong IT literacy (MS Office and CAFM/PPM systems).
- Supervisory or team lead experience (or clear ambition for future leadership roles).
- Based on a defined shift pattern in line with site operations.
- Flexibility required to support shift cover, call-outs, and overtime as needed.
- All working hours and overtime will comply with the Working Time Directive.
