Role Purpose – Technician (Docklands) We are seeking a skilled and proactive Technician to join our team in Docklands, responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and technical oversight of building control systems, plant, and critical infrastructure. The successful candidate will ensure all systems operate efficiently and comply with health, safety, environmental, and statutory regulations, while supporting operational excellence across data centre facilities.

Role Summary
  • Critical Alarm Response: Act as first responder to all critical alarm notifications, liaising with the Client Service Desk and providing timely updates.
  • Team Supervision: Support day-to-day coordination of the maintenance team, ensuring service delivery across data centres is efficient and effective.
  • Service Delivery: Ensure completion of reactive and planned tasks within agreed SLAs and customer expectations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with management and stakeholders to support operational and service delivery objectives.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all relevant quality, health & safety, and environmental standards.
Primary Objectives
  • Technical Liaison: Serve as the first point of contact for technical queries from both clients and site staff.
  • Environmental Control: Monitor and maintain environmental systems to meet specified tolerances in critical areas.
  • Change Management: Implement change control procedures and ensure accurate communication of software, documentation, and hardware updates.
  • Alarm Management: Review existing protocols and propose improvements for alarm handling efficiency.
  • Emergency Operations: Support site and client management in emergency scenarios and drills.
  • Maintenance & Fault Resolution: Perform inspections, testing, and fault diagnosis on all plant, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • System Operation: Ensure safe and compliant start-up, operation, and shutdown of systems and equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Report issues and support compliance with all statutory and company requirements.
  • Auditing: Conduct regular quality and technical audits for system and asset compliance.
  • Technical Support: Contribute to investigations, RCAs, and A3 reports to improve system resilience.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for energy efficiency, system enhancement, and risk mitigation.
Main Duties
  • Oversee critical systems performance to ensure zero downtime in power and service delivery.
  • Monitor and respond to BMS/EMS alarms, escalating as required per the alarm matrix.
  • Maintain awareness of M&E works impact on live environments; implement necessary precautions.
  • Develop and maintain site-specific procedures (SOPs, MOPs, EOPs).
  • Provide shift cover and support as needed.
  • Coordinate vendor access, track updates, and manage issue resolution effectively.
  • Use CMMS and ticketing platforms to log activities and manage workflow.
  • Remotely reset or adjust environmental systems per client/operations requests.
  • Monitor Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and support energy-saving initiatives.
  • Produce regular reports on UPS status and battery monitoring.
  • Monitor BMS systems, mimic panels, and all plant alarms continuously.
  • Administer the Permit to Work system, ensuring compliance and visibility.
  • Review RAMS and access permits to proactively manage risks.
  • Coordinate electrical and mechanical switching schedules safely and effectively.
  • Maintain site logbooks to required standards.
  • Collaborate with Technical Manager and shifts to ensure service continuity and team alignment.
  • Support BMS calibration and ongoing system accuracy.
  • Contribute to training of junior technicians and apprentices, including mock drill scenarios.
Core Competencies & Requirements
  • Qualifications: Formal electrical apprenticeship or equivalent technical training.
  • Experience: Proven background in building services, ideally within critical or data centre environments.
  • Regulatory Understanding: Knowledge of cGxP-controlled environments is advantageous.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong grasp of building systems, fault diagnosis, and service delivery in complex environments.
  • Communication: Confident communicator with the ability to liaise across teams and stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving: Proactive in identifying and resolving issues with minimal supervision.
  • Compliance Focused: Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental best practices.
